The Role and Functional Structure of CAE

CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) is an approximate numerical analysis method that uses computers to assist in solving complex engineering and product problems, such as analyzing and calculating mechanical properties (e.g., structural strength, stiffness, buckling stability, dynamic response, heat conduction, 3D multi-body contact, and elastoplasticity) and optimizing structural performance.

The Role of CAE

  1. Enhances design capabilities: Ensures the rationality of product design through computer-aided analysis and calculation, reducing design costs.
  2. Shortens the design and analysis cycle.
  3. Acts as a "virtual prototype," largely replacing the resource-intensive "physical prototype verification" process in traditional design. This virtual prototype role can predict product reliability throughout its entire lifecycle.
  4. Enables optimized design to identify the best product design solutions, reducing material consumption or costs.
  5. Prediscovers potential issues before product manufacturing or engineering construction.
  6. Simulates various test schemes to reduce test time and expenses.
  7. Supports mechanical accident analysis to identify root causes.

Functional Structure of CAE

  • Computer-Aided Engineering Planning and Management: Includes feasibility studies for engineering projects, tender documents, cost and quotation analysis, project schedules, sub-project plans and progress tracking, and budget/settlement reports.
  • Computer-Aided Engineering Design: Involves engineering design indicators, relevant design parameters, and CAD systems. In CAD systems, emphasis is placed on the leading role of designers while leveraging computer support to develop optimal design schemes in the shortest time. Additionally, attention is paid to extracting and storing design data to effectively serve the entire engineering lifecycle.
  • Computer-Aided Construction Management: Covers management, control, and scheduling of project progress, quality, safety, on-site operations, personnel, and material supply. It integrates technologies from engineering management, operations research, statistics, and quality control.
  • Engineering Document Management: Refers to the process of collecting, managing, and controlling various documents submitted during an engineering project.
